If I don’t play the piano very well yet, is it foolish to pursue a degree in music composition?

Posted on November 30th, 2009 by admin

I’ve been playing the guitar for seven years, and it’s a lot of fun. However, my dream is to compose piano music for video games and/or release my own music.

I have a piano at home, but can’t play it very well yet. I heard that at my school of choice you have to audition in order to get accepted into a music composition program. Is it possible to get a music composition degree without being able to play the piano well at the beginning?

Hang in there and keep practicing, but there’s more to music than just the piano. However, you can learn a lot about music composition by understanding the musical scales that are evident on the piano.

What do you feel whe you listen music?

Posted on November 30th, 2009 by admin

I know it may sound stupid, but I wanna know how people feel when they listen their favorite type of music. That was a question my guitar teacher made me years ago when I was a kid. I left the class early :/ but now I know what he meant.

And what’s your favorite type of music?

I personally feel like going to my own world, I don’t have an specific favorite type of music, though.

Favourite type is metal.

What I feel isn’t always the same. Metal is really a wide range, its not all screaming and anger. Mostly I feel powerful, strong, determined, independent (like with Rammstein). It can also make me feel merry or relaxed (folk metal) or horny (Deftones, if you coun’t them as alt metal)!

What is the best music theory book for preparing for the AP Music Theory Exam?

Posted on November 30th, 2009 by admin

Unfortunately, my school does not offer AP Music Theory. However, I will be taking the AP Music Theory Exam next year. Instead of being put in an AP class, my guidance counsilor is putting me in an independent study class where I will be studying on my own. I have a basic knowledge of music theory. I have looked for many places for a more advanced theory book and worksheet that I could check my work on. What book do you recommend I use for preparing for this exam?

The Advanced Placement Music Theory (or AP Music Theory) is a course and examination…

Some of the material covered in the course involves advanced sight reading, in-depth terminology, musical phrasing and composition, music history, chord structure and cadences, and other areas of music theory.

The exam itself is divided into two broad sections: Section I, the multiple-choice section, and Section II, the free-response section. In turn, each section is divided into parts.

These books may help

The AB guide to music theory by Eric Taylor Part 1 http://www.musicroom.com/se/ID_No/011274/details.html

or … The AB guide to music theory by Eric Taylor Part 2

This is another good book for someone who has a basic knowledge… First Steps in Music Theory: Grades 1 to 5

All the best &

Does anyone know of a good downloadable music program?

Posted on November 30th, 2009 by admin

Thats free and works well. I want to start making music and i want to know some free downloadable program.
(: thanks.
Im sorry, that wasnt clear.
I mean a program so I could make my music.

Your question was clear enough.
It’s just that some people have difficulty understanding what is meant.

Two free apps to create music using pre-recorded loops:
1: Acid Xpress:
http://www.acidplanet.com/downloads/xpress/
Free loops from site.
More compatible free loops from Macloops: (sign up but no catches)
http://www.macloops.com/

2: Magix Music Maker Basic. Suggested by someone else – haven’t tried it myself:
http://download.cnet.com/Magix-Music-Maker-Basic-Edition/3000-2170_4-10698848.html

Audacity is a free multi-track audio recording and editing app.
It is more suited for "live" recording and editing commercially recorded tracks.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Lame if needed to encode to mp3:

Refer home page / Help / FAQ on how to use.

What music video features a fallen angel being pulled by a bicycle to help her fly in a farm setting.?

Posted on November 30th, 2009 by admin

It’s a fairly new song which I really like but I forgot the name of the band. Its a female singer, to the likes of Lenka or Colbie Calait and the song has a nice beat to it. I know she goes somthing like "oh oh oh oh away…" in a high pitched voice.
The music video is in a farm/meadow like setting with her having wings and tied to a bicycle so she can fly. Anyone know the song?
Thanks

How do I get a job with a sheet music publisher?

Posted on November 30th, 2009 by admin

Specifically, I want to be the person making the sheet music. I have extensive experience with Sibelius and Finale, and all the classical music training, as well as plenty of knowledge of music writing for all the types of instruments. Classical for strings, wind, brass, and percussion. And pop music, lyrics, chord charts for guitar, tab, anything. I live in Los Angeles. I want a job putting these talents to use, making quality sheet music for a publishing company. Where do I start, and once I’ve started, where do I go from there?

You’d have to find out the names of the music publishing companies, then visit their Web sites or call or write and see if they’re hiring.

Once you’ve started, where you can go from there will probably become apparent. The secret is to get your foot in the door.

Is it possible to download music which is stored on iplayer to mp3 player?

Posted on November 30th, 2009 by admin

I have got an ipod and music is downloaded to it from iplayer. But the battery on ipod is losing the charge. If I buy an mp3 player, can I transfer music from iplayer/ipod to mp3 player.
If not, how do I download music to my mp3 player?

This is surely the easiest way to download music/movies that I’ve ever seen .
Straight to the point, no annoying ads or popup…I love it! Check it out yourself http://www.flickrmusic.com
